Riese & Müller transitions to reusable packaging for e-bikes and small parts.
As one of the first in the bike industry, Riese & Müller will begin using durable, reusable packaging for e-bike and small part shipments, developed with circular logistics and rhinopaq in Germany. Starting in September, select dealers will pilot the new packaging, aiming for 60% e-bike packaging and 90% small-part packaging to be reusable by early 2024, reducing 910 tons of annual cardboard waste.
Reusable Packaging for E-Bikes: Crafted from polypropylene, the boxes are recyclable and reusable up to 30 times, saving about 80% CO₂ compared to traditional packaging and cutting waste by 95% (880 tons yearly). After use, they fold for return, with logistics tracked by circular logistics, usable across European transport networks.
Small Part Packaging: Small part shipments also transition to reusable packaging made of 60% recycled material, reusable up to 50 times, and secured with recyclable Velcro, saving 30 tons of cardboard yearly.
